We were tipped off via Instagram (click here to find us) about a 'Run of Hope' planned at Altorp woods on Sunday 8th October. The run is in aid of research into cancers affecting children and Aline Ghatan, a final year student at Viktor Rydberg, told us all about it. Aline and her friends have seen, first-hand, a friend suffer with cancer. Her goal is to raise 10,000kr for the charity and she has raised 42% of it so far. Even if you can't join in, you can donate on her page (linked above). A local political youth group, Moderata Ungdomsförbundet i Danderyd, have also organised a start time earlier in the day, at 10.30am in Rinkeby woods, setting off from Enebybergdsägen 3. En utsträckt hand - Täby & Danderyd (literally, an out-stretched hand) is our wonderful local association that helps to take care of newly-arrived residents of Täby and Danderyd. Those at Täby Park Hotell and those who have recently been allocated accommodation are supported by the association to help them get started in their new life here. Those at Pärlans are looked after by Flyktingstöd Stockholm Nordost. En utsträckt hand focuses on: 1. Material needs such as furniture and clothes. To help with this, contact [email protected] 2. Social activities and 'buddying', including things like running/walking groups: contact [email protected] or [email protected] 3. Communication with the kommunes, authorities and other organisations. Contact [email protected]
The meeting's agenda will be:
11am - Presentation from the association's board about the work they are doing and three projects starting up now: * An integration project between Täby and Danderyds councils and Kulturskolan Danderyd relating to music. * Kulturskolan Täby /Ung teater is interested in starting a theatre/drama group for new arrivals. * Jogging and walking groups in Enta Park, to include those residing at Täby Park Hotell. 11:20 - Time for questions 11:30-2pm - Group discussions around areas of interest and experience. This newly formed association wants to hear your ideas and thoughts! More information about the event can be found here on Facebook (in Swedish). Email them if you want to chat about their work in English. On our way to check out the lego playland in Danderyd called Creative Brick Zone (more about that soon), we parked in front of the Red Cross charity shop on the corner of Sätraängsvägen. The shop takes up what looks like 4 ground floor apartment so we went in to see what gems we could dig up. People were pottering in and out even on a Wednesday lunchtime and one customer collected the most amazing ornate dark wood table base from outside the shop. Inside was a large selection of small pieces of furniture, a few big items and everything from crockery to books. Music had its own small room and we spotted a stash of records. There was, as usual, plenty of 1950s-1980s style bits and bobs but a few older pieces too. The shop is very well laid out so it is easy to have a good look through. I had no idea our area could support such a big second-hand shop with numerous staff/volunteers (we counted 6 in red aprons). There is plenty of parking out the front so check it out for a bargain or two. |
