Nursery school places are sometimes hard to come by in the Danderyd area but, after a few families have moved on to other countries, the wonderful English-speaking Lilla Montessori has space for this autumn. It is a tiny nursery school and wonderful in many ways (we know from personal experience!). Here is the info:

It is that time of year again - school choices for the year start in August. For those choosing within the Swedish system, the closing date is 11th February 2016 and choices need to made via www.danderyd24.se.

We got to see around Stocksundskolan last week and were happily impressed. It is a big school - 750 children split between it and Långängsskolan but class sizes are relatively small and the facilities (staff and location) are really very good. All the schools in Danderyd report good results.

It was absolutely worth going to the open evening though as it gave us a really good insight into both the schools and a much better understanding of the Swedish system, which is so very different from the British system! It is almost impossible to compare them as they focus on such different things and by meeting the teaching staff, it became much clearer how the balance between school teaching and 'fritids' teaching works.

Vasaskolan - Monday 1st Feb 6pm for reception (age 6) and 7pm for year 4 (age 10)
Baldersskolan - Tuesday 2nd Feb 6pm-7pm
Långängsskolan - Wednesday 3rd Feb 6pm-7pm
Kyrkskolan - Thursday 4th Feb 6pm-7pm
Brageskolan - Wednesday 10th Feb 6:30pm-8pm

Our local Brownie group, 1st Djursholm Brownies, is the only Brownie group in Sweden and they celebrated their 10 year anniversary last week with a big party.  Brownies are a group of girl scouts and the girls work towards all sorts of goals, such as 'taking care of a neighbour' and 'raising money for charity' and, when they achieve a goal, they get a fabric badge that they can wear to each meeting.

Brownies have operated in the UK for 100 years this year and to celebrate with 1st Djursholm Brownies, a very special guest arrived from Britain - Lesley Knighton MBE, the Commissioner for British Guides in Foreign Countries.  Here are some photos from the celebrations!
