Local business update
The wonderful Anna Åhlgren has now (mid-March 2020) started holding yoga classes outside on the small football pitch called Olivia, at Djursholms IP. Anna or another local yoga teacher, such as Jenny Hermelin from Djursholm Yoga, will be there every weekday from 9am to 10am unless it is raining/snowing or a storm. Don't forget to wear warm clothes, including gloves and thick socks and remember to take a yoga mat or blanket with you. There is a Facebook group just for this - click here to reach it. It is in Swedish. Please do share photos with us if you feel like it on the Life in Danderyd Facebook page. Life doesn't always give us time for regular language classes and signing up for a course only to miss some of the lessons can be really demotivating. So, instead of holding weekly lessons, New in Sweden has one-off workshops so you can come when you want to and not pay for sessions you can't make.
New in Sweden's workshops are packed full of language all around just one topic, so you learn as much as possible in each and every workshop. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year: Daytime workshops Beginners (A level): 9:00 - 10:30 and Intermediate (B and C level): 11:00 - 12:30 12th Nov - Food trends, verbs for food discussions, food sayings and how to say what you think about food 19th Nov - All about travelling around in Sweden 26th Nov - Intensive conversation practice: talking for most of the workshop Evening workshops 6:00 - 7.30pm 12th Nov - BEGINNERS: Food trends, verbs for food discussions, food sayings and how to say what you think about food 19th Nov - IMPROVERS/INTERMEDIATE: All about travelling around in Sweden Click here to find our more and book. On Monday 17th December, criminologist Maria Dufva will be sharing her experience and knowledge about our children’s life online (in Swedish, click here tickets www.familyflow.se/butik). The talk is organised by Family Flow and we got in touch with Ulrika Fallenius that runs it, to see what else she and the company do. Ulrika's answer? Parenting made easy! Parenting Facilitor Ulrika Fallenius runs Family Flow from her home in Djursholm. Parents are invited for a healthy breakfast in her kitchen followed by a workshop by the open fire in the living room. They meet to discuss and learn how to handle the day-to-day challenges of being a parent.
"We don’t dictate how you should bring up your children," says Ulrika. "We help you to understand your child’s temperament, define your own family values and give you tools to stay calm, as well as to manage your child’s behaviours. These make life as a parent easier and more fulfilling and help you to build an even stronger connection with your child so that they thrive, boosting their self-worth too." Courses and workshops are designed for parents with children aged 4-years up to and including teenagers. Topics covered are (among others):
For those who can’t make it to the courses, Ulrika offers an in-depth online parenting course as well as private consultations, face-to-face or on Skype. Ulrika trained in London so is very happy to help in English! Daily reminders and words of parenting wisdom can be found on Instagram at @familyflow.se and for more information about the courses and contact with Ulrika, check out www.familyflow.se
Djursholm Yoga studio, located right on the central square Djursholms torg, is under new leadership when Jenny Hermelin stepped up as the new owner in June 2018. In addition to running the business and building a team of teachers for the studio, you’ll also find Jenny on the mat teaching classes herself. Jenny’s vision for Djursholm Yoga is to create a space for anyone interested in what conscious movement and more awareness can do to body and mind, and to develop a sense of community where all are welcome. Classes and workshops can be taught in English or Swedish to suit the class.
Flexibility and stress relief are the most common reasons people begin a yoga practice. While the majority of yoga practitioners are women, the number of men practicing yoga is rising. A clear sign of this is that the class Yoga for Stiff Men has become one of the most popular at the studio. People of all ages practice yoga and the age group 50+ (also known as the 'golden yogis') is the fastest growing segment. “The practice on the mat is really a practice for life off the mat. Djursholm Yoga wants to contribute to help you become more aware. Of your body, how it feels, what it can do. Of your breath. And your thoughts, feelings and actions – if you choose to. By moving consciously your body will get stronger and more flexible, and your mind will get calmer. Ready to take on the world 🤸♀Everything we offer at Djursholm Yoga is conscious movement, including the non-yoga classes.” ~ Jenny Hermelin Check the schedule online to see a current list of classes, workshops and events.

Students are cast in the roles most suitable for them. Nobody gets left out and everyone is involved and there is plenty to do. The shows are specially written to give the cast lots of important lines, loads of group singing and tons of ensemble dancing!
The students are treated as professionals throughout and are offered a challenging four days, performing a contemporary musical specially written for the course. Teamwork is emphasised throughout the rehearsal period - the show won't work without it! Price: 200 Euros. Mon-Thu 10am-4pm. Packed-lunches along with snacks for breaks are required.
