North-west of Mörby Centrum, in Klingsta, Ingrid Hverén-Ekström has opened a children's second hand clothing shop, Danderyds Second Hand, based on the concept of 'slow fashion' - having a small selection of quality clothing rather than a large amount of clothing that may not stand the test of time. Ingrid explains that children tend to wear clothing for such a short time that it often doesn't wear out. We can have a very positive effect on both our environment and our children's health by buying used clothing - Ingrid tells me that the nasty chemicals used in manufacture have been washed out of the clothing by the time it touches a child's skin, which isn't true of new clothing. According to the Swedish National Environment Protection Board (Naturvårdsverket), the production of 1kg of new textile produces 15kg of carbon dioxide and uses a large amount of water, energy and chemicals. Not only does Ingrid's concept promote sustainability, it also allows parents to shop for brand name clothing with rather less financial burden on their wallets! |
Danderyds Second Hand is the perfect one-stop-shop for many brands, including Swedish brands Polarn o Pyret and Geggamoja to well-known international brands like Ralph Lauren and Burberry. Ingrid is enjoying getting to know regular customers and often parents that go in to consign their lightly used pieces come out with a handful of things they could not resist. The shop is open on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as well as Saturday midday. You are certain to come out with some great bargains! |
